I love plants, since I was born and brought up in a place which was rich in nature. Especially, I’m attracted by weeds, which scarcely appeal to people. I often imagine the scenery which only weeds are blowing in the wind leisurely even after humans have vanished. Also, I sometimes encounter scenery which human made objects are being twined by weeds and plants. Although letters are invented by humans too, my fancy of what if letters are entwined by weeds, drove me to make alphabets decorated with plants. Though this project has just barely started, I imagine what I see when all 26 letters have been done, and keep engraving with much enjoyment.
自然の多い環境で育ったので、植物が好きです。特に人目を引かない雑草に惹かれます。雑草の生命力には驚かされるばかりで、人間が全て消え去っても雑草だけが悠々と風に吹かれている、そんな風景をよく想像することがあります。実際、人間が作ったものが植物に飲み込まれていく光景を時折街角で見かけますが、とても美しい光景だと思います。文字も人間が作り出した物ですが、それらが植物に飲み込まれたらどうなるのかという想像が、雑草の飾り文字の制作を思いついた始まりでした。26文字が完成した時に見える風景を楽しみに、少しずつ彫り進めています。
